Shavel’le Olivier is a Mattapan resident and has been active in the community since she was a teen. She has a background working with young people 14-23 through her employment at Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, a health and wellness organization that promotes walking and biking as a form of physical activity among other things, and DREAM, a mentoring organization that pairs youth 18 and under with a young adult from a nearby university. In regards to transportation, Shavel’le co-founded Mattapan on Wheels in 2011, a youth led cycling event created to bring awareness to the city that Mattapan does bike, helped youth create and implement bike workshops in Mattapan in 2019, and founded and co-created a conversation series called Transportation Talks in 2020 geared towards those who live in Mattapan, Dorchester, and Roxbury to explore the intersection between transportation and other factors that affect quality of life. Shavel’le has a growing background in community engagement through the organizations above including LivableStreets Alliance where she co-led two Street Ambassador deployments to engage residents about the Cummins Highway, American Legion Highway, Warren Street, and Malcolm X Boulevard street redesigns. Shavel'le has received her B.S from Boston College in Marketing/Management and Leadership, her Masters from Northeastern University in Non-Profit/Organizational Management, and will soon have completed a graduate certificate in Public Health from Boston University.
Chavella Lee-Pacheco is a 5th-generation Bostonian whose overall mission is to mitigate climate change by including her community in the conversation of solutions. She has a background in youth development, having worked with young people since she herself was 13. She has gained experience through the Boston Public School’s Office of Information and Instructional Technology as a project manager for their internet safety initiative as well as the Adobe Youth Voices program that encourages creative confidence. More recently, she has worked in the realm of youth development and food systems with organizations like The Food project and Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition. Previously, Chavella was the Community Planning Manager at Madison Park Development Corporation, overseeing Roxbury in Motion a Department of Public Health funded movement to mitigate chronic disease in communities across the state by focusing on changes in policies, systems, and the built environment in the places that residents live, work, and play.
Ishmael Dolphy Hazelwood is a Milton/Mattapan resident that has been involved within his community since he was a child. He currently attends Boston College High School in Dorchester, and plans on pursuing a Bachelor's degree for English and Business & Management. He has been a part of the Mattapan On Wheels event for several years and joined the route organization team for the event and became the Intermediate Route leader in summer 2021 and 2022. He is the Youth Transportation Consultant for Consult LeLa, and has facilitated dozens of informational transportation displays regarding the possible infrastructure changes of the Mattapan. Summer of 2022 he facilitated a Walk Audit in Mattapan Square with the Youth Engagement Committee. He is a member of the National Honors Society, was a part of both his high school’s Track & Field and Basketball team for a couple of years. Where his passion truly lies is within his community and finding a way to be a great mentor, older brother, and as an example for the youth in the community. He constantly strives to not only better himself but those around him as well.
